JVC KV-K1017 Professional Car Installation Kit for KT-HDP1 Transportable HD Radio Tuner

I bought the HD tuner in a package that included the DIY car kit (KV-K1018). Reception was poor and would fade in and out especially when travelling into a new area that had strong FM stations near the broadcast frquency I had the HD tuner set to. This then necessitated changing the frequency setting on the HD unit to reduce interference. Overall I was unhappy with the experience and didn’t think the HD tuner was going to work out.
Then I got this kit, marketed as the Professional kit. If you can get to your car radio, you can do it yourself. I had to google to find out how to get to my radio. It was simple from there.
The difference with this kit and the DIY one is that this kit uses your car’s existing antenna for a signal and uses your car radio’s antenna input to feed that signal in. Of course if your lucky enough to have an aux-in jack on your car radio, better yet. Conversely, the DIY kit uses a separate antenna for reception and another antenna (if you don’t have an aux-in jack) to broadcast the signal wirelessly to your radio. Both of those antennas must be adhered to your windshield or rear window. A windsheild antenna does not get as good reception as the external antenna installed on my car.
The biggest advantage with this setup, in addition to a stronger signal by using your car’s antenna, is that by intercepting the antenna signal to your car radio, your car radio receives only the HD unit’s signal thereby eliminating interference which in turn means never having to adjust the HD unit’s broadcast frequency. And when you turn off the HD unit, your car radio will receive the same reception it always did.
As for the HD tuner, I wish it had an aux-in jack for an MP3 player like some other brands have.

This is exactly what you need to go with the hd tuner, made the reception, sound, and installation much better.

I bought the KT-HDP1, the home kit and the professional car kit for this radio and I have been disappointed.
Now as for the car kit, yes the car kit helps if your not moving. I bought the professional kit that directly ties into the cars antenna which required me to buy special adapters since my Nissan Rouge with the Bose system had special connectors instead of the standard push ones(Not a big deal). The radio sounds great and is nice and clear. Especially if I pipe the sound through the 3.5MM Input port on my radio vs. the built in FM transmitter. But once I start to move thats it, game over, HD is gone it will go into a loop of HD/Analog for the entire drive. Sadly the radio stations in Pittsburgh don’t have their analog and HD feed’s perfectly synced, or this piece of junk needs an extra second to process the digital sound so while its looping the song is jumping all over.
before I installed the kit I always had crystal clear FM, but now that my antenna is piping through the JVC Module (not the radio there is a giant module you mount behind your dash) my FM reception sucks as bad as the home kit and guess what…..
NOW I CAN’T TUNE IN 1020 KDKA AM, just like the home kit I now no longer have AM radio on my built in car receiver. Its gone… so that leaves me to conclude that the module like the home kit filter that signal out somehow.
Bottom line….I have to rip out the professional kit from my car to get decent radio reception again and so that I can listen to AM. This sucks cause it took a long time to pull the dash and install everything. Now I have to do it all over again.
About me I know some people are thinking that I am stupid and don’t know what I am doing. Stop right now that is bull. I shopped JC Whittney and bought all preconfigured connectors and adapters. I made no cuts to any of the wiring in my car or to my antenna to install this. So for those who say you have signal leak from splicing wires you can stop now I didn’t splice a single wire.

After receiving the KT-HDP1 for Christmas and realizing it didn’t come with a car installation kit, I immediately found this product. It does exactly as advertised, and it’s really easy to install. The black box works as an antenna pass-through, where you plug your car’s antenna to the black box and then the additional antenna wire that comes out of the black box gets plugged in to your existing head unit. The other cables are for hooking directly up to the KT-HDP1, and then of course there’s the mounting piece for the dash and cable sleeve to keep things looking clean and organized. The only problem I had at all was with the mounting piece; it doesn’t swivel a whole lot (maybe 60 degrees) and as such it doesn’t fit quite right on my dash. Of course that’s a per-car thing, but it still works fine. I would wholly recommend this over the other installation kit that’s available, as this one uses your car’s antenna rather than antenna strips, and those usually don’t have that good of reception.
