Monster MPC FM XMTR RadioPlay FM Transmitter for Portable Audio Players

Money well spent! I bought a similar product that worked on batteries. Needless to say that ate batteries like crazy – when you use it every day twice a day for a 42 mile one way commute to work… (I listen to a lot of books on tape & CD) When that finally died (the wires broke inside), I found this little gem! Plugs into the ‘cigarette lighter’, and since I have a Subaru, I don’t have to worry about unplugging it to save the car battery. (I can see that being a problem for people who have vehicles with electrical systems that stay on when you turn the vehicle off – that’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 – for my needs, it’s a 5 all the way!) On the whole, the sound is fantastic – I use it with a casette player, a cd player (as the one in my car died), and my daughter’s Ipod. You cannot tell the difference between the real radio and the broadcast. There is a good selection of stations to choose to from, and it’s easy to slide from station to station if needs be. I’ve never found a reason to change my chosen broadcast station.
All in all – a great buy for the buck! (much cheaper than getting an entire new radio for the car just to listen to my books)

I don’t doubt that this Monster brand unit is probably the best built of all the brands of FM transmitters, but I did notice that it cuts off the high end significantly. I have a portable device with a built-in EQ, and even with the top end boosted all the way it didn’t sound quite right. It reduces the overall sound quality to FM quality (or less) and I noticed occasional chuffing noise in the background during quiet songs. The transmitted music is quieter than real FM broadcasts, which is true of all FM transmitters – they really should build in a small line-level amplifier to these things, it wouldn’t be that hard to do. On the upside, the transmitter never “lost” the signal.
In summary, this is a good cheap temporary solution if you don’t have any other recourse, like if you’re going on a long trip (maybe in a rental car) and don’t want to be driven crazy by bad FM programming, but it’s not at all equivalent to a basic line level radio input.

This FM transmitter works. Its signal is weak, so volume on MP3 player AND on car radio both have to be pretty high. The power source only powers the transmitter, not the MP3 Player. Sound quality is good, to my untrained ear. Switching back to radio can be jarring if you forget to turn volume back to normal level. Otherwise, no complaints. It works with my iPod as well as a Creative Zen Stone MP3 player.

i have one of these & where i live (in maine) there is some interference from time to time but nothing major.
i got one for my brother to use his new MP3 player & he couldn’t use it at all! because he lives in los angeles & all of these stations are actually broadcasting.
before getting this get in your car and try the stations 88.1-89.5
if most of them are just static, then this thing will work fine.
if most of them are taken by an actual radio station DO NOT BUY THIS.
my brother ended up getting a tape adapter (tape, how quaint) and he said that it works fine.
i will say that it works well for me, but it’s not as if it’s crystal clear. if you want that you’re gonna have to get a head unit with auxiliary input. but this’ll do in a pinch. HOWEVER, i wouldn’t feel this way if i’d paid full price for mine. i got mine (not on amazon) for insanely cheap & with free shipping. if it’d been $50 i would’ve felt very differently.
i’m giving it 3 stars because it works and does what it’s supposed to do, but in my opinion it’s not worth the $50 asking price.

I bought this product based on the great reviews I saw and I am very, very pleased with this product. Everyone I know has had a hard time finding a FM transmitter that works and sounds good. This product WORKS and it the music SOUNDS GOOD. The only setback is that I found only one station in my area that is completely compatible with the device. However, that one station works great. I highly recommend this if you just want to listen to your own music on your ipod or mp3 rather than all of the crap on the radio.
